About

What do we mean by Honor Outdoors?

I love the outdoors.

Growing up, the Boy Scouts taught me a ton about how to enjoy the wilderness.

I grew up in the southeast United States, and through scouts even had a chance to learn basic hunting archery skills and qualify for my hunting license. But without people to teach me, I never got started.

As a result, even after getting my license, I went hunting just once before the age of 30. Every time I tried to start, I just couldn’t figure out where to begin. It turns out that there’s not a ton of great info out there on how to get started hunting.

Over the past few years, I’ve started duck and goose hunting. I hope to expand my experience to more small game, upland birds, and American big game as well! I couldn’t help noticing when I moved to Washington that the rules feel very complicated, and aren’t explained well.

Even worse, the rules about where the average person can hunt, when, and for what gets complicated fast.

People who have been hunting a long time do know this stuff, and can be super helpful. I have decided to build the resources I only wished I could find when I was beginning.

To legally and responsibly hunt, there is a lot we must know. To hunt safely there’s even more to know, do, and equip.

I started Honor Outdoors to share my love of our wilderness, hunting, and sharing with others. I want it to be RIDICULOUSLY EASY for anyone to get into the sport safely and responsibly.

All of this depends on us carrying ourselves with pride and appreciation for the ENORMOUS blessings we inherit as Americans.

What are we all about?

Education

Hunting is a rewarding way to spend time, but there is lots to know. We are here to make sure all the information we could not find is available for others getting started or searching for ways to improve.

We have HUGE PLANS for the site, but are starting with a small team. The goal for this site is to share guides for EVERYTHING you need to know to be successful in the field.

Over time, we’ll be sharing:

  • Where to Hunt
  • How to Hunt
  • The Best Gear for Hunting

The plan is to start by focusing on hunting in Washington. Once we’ve built that out though, there’s lots to share about EVERY state!

Community

While there aren’t as many people hunting as there used to be, we’re all in this together!

Hunters depend on hunters to maintain our rights, our access to land, keep our land in good shape, and keep the sport alive.

We’re not all business! Hunters love to have fun with other hunters, and we’re no different. We’ll be working to share the hottest memes, fun ideas, and connect with you, person to person.

Preserving Our Natural Resources

America’s greatest leaders have had lots to say about our public land. It’s one of our nation’s treasures.

There are many potential threats to habitats for our animals, though! Sometimes these threats are as simple as trash accumulating in waterways or from recreation activities. Elsewhere, the government, businesses, and people in the community work to change access to public land, or even turn it private.

Hunting helps keep wild animal populations healthy. It provides many families across the country with healthy sources of food. In some cases, it also helps eradicate threats and invasive, non-native species.

All hunters bear a responsibility to keep our habitats healthy for ourselves and future generations!

Helping Others

There’s more to keeping hunting alive and thriving than keeping land open and habitats healthy! We want to see more people joining in on the sport.

This requires many things. More people need the information and tools to get started. More people need to feel the kindness of others as they begin hunting!

We want to be here for the small businesses that support hunting. For the hunters that show their passion for the outdoors by waking up hours before daybreak to watch the animals rise at first light. For the community. We’re here to honor the outdoors.

Giving Back

I’ve relied a ton on the generosity of others to learn how to hunt. Every hunter has benefitted from the work of thousands before us to keep land safe and healthy, and take care of our populations of wild animals.

To keep our animals, lands, and sport healthy, this site donates 20% of ALL profit we generate. 10% goes to causes focused on keeping those animals, lands, and the sport in general healthy. The other 10% is focused on invigorating small businesses and local causes for the sport.
